12th Annual
AURORA CUP
Dear Aurora Country Club Member,
The 12th Annual AURORA CUP will be held
on September 20th and 21st, 2008. The Aurora Cup mirrors the Ryder
Cup in every way - from qualifying for the two teams to the actual rules of
play. This event is sure to provide for some exciting year-end play
for those selected to the two participating teams.
It is important for you to understand how you can make one of the Aurora
Cup Teams at the beginning of the year - because it is your play throughout
the season, which will qualify you for the teams!!
QUALIFICATIONS
Teams will be determined based upon
participation and performance in nine (9) events: the Captain & Crew, Opening Day, the Torza Senior/Junior,
the Aurora Invitational, Hard Course Day, the ACC Championship Weekend, Borealis
Day, Old Pal, and the Match Play Championship. For those events that
have qualifying days, participants will be awarded one point for attempting
to qualify, provided they play all necessary qualifying rounds for that tournament. You
will earn participation points (regardless of your place of finish) as follows:
Two points – Captain & Crew, Torza Senior/Junior,
Hard Course Day
Four points – Opening Day, the ACC Championship Weekend,
Match Play Championships and Old Pal
Three points – the Aurora Invitational & Borealis
Day (Participation points only)
Additional points
will be awarded based upon your finish in the first seven events listed. The
26 players with the most accumulated point totals will then participate in
the Aurora Cup. The two highest point winners
will be designated Team Captains.
THE 2008 TEAMS
As in the Ryder Cup, two teams of
12 players each will compete over two days (Saturday & Sunday) for the Aurora Cup. Saturday morning features
the five matches of better ball for one point earned for each match won. Saturday
afternoon will feature the five true alternate shot matches, again played
for one point per match won. On Sunday, the 12 individual matches
are played, one point for each match won. All matches will be played
with USGA handicaps. Team captains can switch player positions after
any match. The winning team will have their names engraved on the Aurora
Cup.
THE TEAM SELECTION PARTY
To begin the fun and spirit,
a team selection party, for Participants and Spouses, will be on Friday, September
19th before the start of this year’s
event.
(Please Note: The Aurora Cup is self-funded. Each
of the qualifying events that make up this series “pay” a portion
of their event income to this event.)
During the season a progress board will be prominently displayed
so that each member will know their current point totals.
The end of
the season promises to be exciting as players jockey for the final few points.
Your
Golf Committee strongly encourages your participation in this year’s
event schedule.
“GO FOR IT” and become a part of the 12th Annual
Aurora Cup
