History

This brings in focus another "unique" facet of the Aurora Country Club; the penchant for fires, and the perfect record of never having adequate insurance. The clubhouse burned down in 1941 and, with other problems soon to develop, reconstruction was delayed. Back to the old farmhouse with a few refinements and additions. By 1950 a new clubhouse was constructed - this time a bit further west, wrapped around a pool and the "temporary clubhouse".

Since World War II Aurora had expanded until it completely encircled the golf club property. The question then was whether or not to sell the entire property and start again, or just allocate more money to the old clubhouse. Remodeling was chosen in 1957 so that Aurora would remain more or less a city-country club. In 1964 there was small fire. The trapshooting clubhouse went up in flames; this proved a prelude to 1968 when the main clubhouse was mostly destroyed by fire. After considerable effort the clubhouse was completed in 1971 and, as mentioned earlier, the club property annexed to the city to get adequate fire protection. At this time the new pool complex was installed west of the old location and tennis courts were added.
