Junior Golf 2011

Jr. Golf Registration

Parents Must call the ProShop to register their Junior Golfers.

Dear Aurora Country Club Parents,

The following pages contain information on the 2011 Aurora Country Club Junior Golf Program and registration forms to enroll your children. The program will be a six week long program consisting of six afternoons of instruction by myself, my Assistant Golf Professional, and members of the Aurora University Golf Team. The junior golfers will also have the golf course reserved for them on Thursday mornings following their Tuesday lessons days to play. I have also scheduled a Junior Guest Day on July 7 th.

The purpose of the Aurora Country Club Junior Golf Program is to have fun improving the games of our existing junior golfers and to introduce the wonderful game of golf to those who have not yet begun to play. It is my goal to provide your children and grandchildren with core instruction in the full swing, chipping, and putting while promoting the game of golf that I love so much myself. For the youngest of our junior golfers, I have purchased SNAG golf equipment. SNAG golf is a great way to teach the youngest golfers the basics while allowing them to use equipment that is designed for their size and strength. More information on SNAG golf is provided below. It is our job to make the game fun so they will continue to play on their own.

To make a program like this work, I will be asking the parents and grandparents for their support in volunteering to walk with the younger children on Thursday mornings. At every Club I have been at, the Junior Golf Program is only as good as the parents that support it.

Thank you for taking the time to review the information. In order to properly order the shirts and hats for the children, I am asking that all registration forms be returned to the Golf Shop by May 1 st.

SNAG Golf

SNAG Golf is designed for children ages six (6) and under who have difficulty making consistent contact with a golf ball due to the weight of a metal club. SNAG clubs are plastic with enlarged club heads and designed to hit tennis balls. I believe SNAG golf is a great way to introduce the game of golf to children six (6) and under for the following reasons:

  1. SNAG golf allows young children to see positive results from their efforts by seeing the ball get hit every swing. There is nothing more frustrating for a child than swinging time after time with an overweight piece of equipment and missing every time.
  2. SNAG golf makes the game more fun for young children and they will be more likely to continue playing a game that they have fun doing.
  3. SNAG golf is safer than regular golf because no major injury can occur with a tennis ball and plastic club. I have seen children hit with an errant shot and laugh.
  4. SNAG golf teaches the children the proper swing because the weight of the club is proportionately correct to their size. Bad swings are formed early by using equipment that is too heavy.

Please feel free to research SNAG golf at their website: www.snaggolf.com.

Aurora Country Club will provide all the equipment necessary for SNAG golf. If you are bringing your children to Aurora Country Club outside of Junior Golf times, please ask a Golf Staff member for SNAG equipment for your children's enjoyment.
