April 2008Welcome to the 2008 Golf Season! With that first round of golf just around the corner we would like to take this opportunity to bring you all up to speed on what is new for this year. Returning for this season are Gary Gortz and Bill Sailor our Assistant Golf Professionals. Our new man out front and Caddie Master is Chad Range, a United States Navy veteran. Please introduce yourself to Chad when you come out for that first round and to welcome him to our club. For all of our new members, please do not hesitate to call us with any questions or concerns you may have. We are here to help you become acquainted with the workings of our club. The 2008 Golf Calendar, now located on our website, contains information on all that concerns golf at Aurora C.C. For our Golf Events, which are highlighted in green, a link from that event will take you to the information page where you will find detailed explanations of each event or function that is to take place on a specific day. You will also find information on Times of Play for Members, Spouses and Juniors, Guest Play Policies, Caddie & Cart Usage, the Aurora Cup, Golf Lesson Programs, Junior Golf, the Tuesday League, Mixed Golf and our Men’s and Ladies Golf Team Leagues. Please note that sign ups for Spring Jug Day and the Captain & Crew all begin in March. Should you wish to have a “take home” version of this calendar, just stop by the Golf shop to pick one up. The Golf shop acknowledges and appreciates your support. One thing to remember is that the Golf Shop is YOUR GOLF SHOP! We try our best to offer all of you the latest and greatest in apparel and equipment, but due to limitations in space we physically cannot stock everything that golf has to offer. So we urge you to think, “Special Orders”. If we do not have it, we can get it! From the latest in golf equipment and fashion, we have access to a variety of merchandise. In addition, with Mill River Pricing, it only makes sense to look here first when considering your “golfing” needs. Especially if you have corporate business needs for shirts, jackets, golf balls, umbrellas, etc. All of this is available through your Golf Shop so give us a call for a price quote! Aurora Country Club provides to all of its members, a place to recreate with family, their fellow members and their guests. The rules that govern our club have been provided to ensure equal access to all members. From this stems the concept that each member has an equal responsibility in acting within these rules. As our season begins, your Board of Directors and your Golf Committee would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of their responsibilities as members. These responsibilities cover many facets; from proper care of our fine golf course, assisting the Golf Shop by properly registering your guests and cart usages, properly posting all scores (home & away), by maintaining the Proper Pace of Play during our rounds and by adhering to all the rules governing times of play, which are always in effect, for members, spouses, children and guests here at Aurora Country Club. As we move into this new season, let us all take our role as members in a manner befitting our establishment. At any time, your questions and concerns can be brought to any member of the Golf Committee or Board. In 2006 we started our project of “enhancing the golf guest experience” here at Aurora Country Club. This enhancement, although it is aimed at our guests, has as its purpose, the task of elevating the standards by which our guests will view the treatment we provide to our members. Our plan, as developed by the Membership Committee, will become a staple in the area of Member Services as provided by our Golf Operations. What is needed from you, our ACC Members is your cooperation. So that the Golf Staff may effectively implement the plan, we are asking that when you plan on bringing a guest or guests to our club, please call the Golf Shop a day prior to your planned round of golf. When you do this, the Golf Staff can fully prepare the tools needed in carrying out the “golf guest experience”. A form will be filled out and distributed to key personnel, who are an integral part of this plan. Guest Bag Tags, Locker Tags, Cart Signage and Caddie Assignments can all be made up ahead of time and will help greatly in improving a lasting impression. Playing Tip of the Month It’s all in the grip! No, I am not talking about whether you should employ the overlap, the interlock or the baseball grip! Now is the time to ensure that the grips on your clubs are ready for the season. Washing them in warm soapy water and hitting them with a scrub brush will do wonders in bringing them back to life and it will make it much easier to grip it and rip it! If need be, your Golf Shop has the ability to put new grips on your clubs, which you should do on a yearly basis. Bring your clubs on by and we can assess which way to go.
